Tour of the Proposed Mission Greenbelt

Meet at CELLspace at noon on Saturday, September 22nd. Bring your walking shoes and plenty of ideas.

Join us for a walking tour of the proposed Mission Greenbelt. We'll start at Franklin Square Park and walk a half-mile into Dolores Park. At CELLspace, we’ll take some time to view the Hidden Histories exhibit and familiarize ourselves with the Mission Greenbelt witth guidebooks and maps. Then we'll start walking.

During the tour, we’ll take time to talk with residents living and working in the Mission. Yes, Spanish speakers are welcome and encouraged to attend!

The proposed Mission Greenbelt connects four parks with a schoolyard garden and existing landscaped sidewalks. Also, a segment of the Greenbelt runs along the banks of the now long vanished Mission Creek. We’ll make a stop at Alioto Mini Park and at the Mission Playground/Pool. While basking in the sun at these small outdoor Mission District refuges, we'll share our ideas and questions with each other. Some questions on my mind are: What will the Greenbelt do for city residents? How will it affect wildlife and the environment? What will it take for us to learn to cooperate? What role does the city of San Francisco play in  facilitating this work?

We’ll wrap up the tour around five o’clock in Dolores Park, where interested parties may sign up to join the efforts.
