WE SING TO WATER :
Dedicated to the Winnemem Wintu tribe
1
The public came to the inauguration of the 4th mural designed by Calude Muller and Evan Bissell in collaboration with the Winnemem Wintu tribe. The mural addresses the present Winnemem campaign to save their homeland. Their homeland was partially lost under the construction of Shasta Dam in 1945 and now California is trying to flood the last Winnemem sacred sites on the McCloud River.

Winnemem Wintu's leaders prepare for the inauguration ceremony. For the respect of their traditions the ceremony was not documented, but briefly, the purpose of the ceremony was to pray to the natural resources in particular the water. The ceremony was conducted by Winnemem tribal leaders who provided with words of wisdom and history. The ceremony ended with an hour performance by elders to young members who sang and danced the Winnemem War Dance.
